Asaase III is the newest addition to The Griot Museum's collection. Inspired by traditional Ghanaian buildings, this monumental public art sculpture used a rammed earth technique to create the six distinct “rooms” of the installation.

Join us for a hands-on workshop this fall that explores, in depth, the installation of Asaase III
Asaase and the rammed earth technique. Design and create your own miniature rammed earth sculpture to display in a future Museum exhibit or to take home.

Counterpublic Collaboration

We are excited to share the news of a spectacular art project which will be gracing the museum's exterior this year. The public project in St. Louis will be an earthwork comprised of locally-sourced materials, named "Asaase III." A rendering of the design showcases curved sculptures resembling walls of varying heights, that will be positioned outside the museum's entrance at 2505 St. Louis Avenue. The Griot Museum extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Taylor family, whose generous gift has made this ambitious project possible. The Griot Museum of Black History looks forward to sharing this remarkable project with the local community and beyond, and we believe that it will make a profound and lasting impact on the cultural landscape of St. Louis. The Griot Museum cannot wait to witness the transformative effect of this stunning piece of art on the wider community.
